Ghibliotheque Hosts Present Liz and the Blue Bird London Screening on May 10

Michael Leader and Jake Cunningham introduce Naoko Yamada's film at Prince Charles cinema

Tickets are available for a London screening of Kyoto Animation's Liz and the Blue Bird on Wednesday May 10 at 8.45 p.m., introduced by Michael Leader and Jake Cunningham, the presenters of the Ghibliotheque podcast. The venue is the Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square.

From the cinema's website:

The film focuses on flutist Nozomi Kasaki and oboist Mizore Yoroizuka in a school orchestra. The band's new competition piece, "Liz and the Blue Bird," has a flute and oboe duet, which requires both Nozomi and Mizore to be coordinated. But while both have been together since middle school, Mizore is uneasy at the thought of being separated from Nozomi once more at the end of the year, which begins to affect not just their music, but also their relationship.

Naoko Yamada (K-ON!, A Silent Voice) directed the film off scripts by Reiko Yoshida (K-ON!, Yowamushi Pedal). Futoshi Nishiya (A Silent Voice, Free!, episode animation director for both television anime seasons) designed the characters. Mutsuo Shinohara (A Silent Voice, Clannad) returned as art director. kensuke ushio (A Silent Voice, Space Dandy) composed the music. While the film is self-contained, it is also related to the Sound! Euphonium franchise, based on Ayano Takeda's Sound! Euphonium novel series.

The episodes of the Ghibliotheque podcast are available here. As well as covering films by and related to Ghibli, the podcast has also covered the anime of Satoshi Kon, the films of the Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon, and the stop-motion animation of Henry Selick.
