Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Film Crosses ₹1.50 Crore in India on 1st Day, Adds New Screenings

PVR Pictures adds screenings in Bokaro, Dahisar, Dhanbad, Rourkela, Royapettah, Udaipur, Vadapalani, more

Film journalist Himesh Mankad and IGN India announced on Thursday that the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 anime film crossed ₹1.50 crore (approximately US$189,790) in ticket sales on its first day in India. PVR Pictures announced on the same day that it will add more screenings of the film in new locations including Bokaro, Dahisar, Dhanbad, Rourkela, Royapettah, Udaipur, Vadapalani, Salem, Vadodara, Vasai, Velachery, Vellore, Thrissur, Tiruppur, Virugambakkam, Madurai, Panvel, Mangalore, and Pathankot.

The film opened in India on Thursday. PVR Pictures initially launched the film in Ahmedabad, Aizwal, Allahabad, Amritsar, Anna Nagar, Aurangabad, Bangalore, Baroda, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Coimbatore, Darjeeling, Dehradun, Delhi, Dimapur, Dombivali, ECR, Ernakulam, Ghaziabad, Goa, Gurgaon, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Jalandhar, Jamshedpur, Kanpur, Kolhapur, Kolkata, Kota, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Mangalore, Mohali, Mumbai, Mysore, Nagpur, Nashik, Noida, Patna, Pondy, Pune, Raipur, Rajkot, Ranchi, Royapettah, Seawoods, Shillong, Siliguri, Surat, Thane, Thriuvadrum, Vadapalani, Vashi, Velachery, Vijayawada, and Vizag.

The film earned a total of 13.75 billion yen (about US$108.1 million) in its run in Japanese theaters. The movie ended its run on May 29, after 157 days at the box office, selling 9.80 million tickets.

The film is now the 14th highest-grossing film in Japan of all time, surpassing The Last Samurai.

The movie is the highest-earning film at the Japanese box office from the 2021 calendar year, after surpassing Evangelion: 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon A Time.

The film is currently the seventh highest-earning anime film of all time worldwide, unadjusted for inflation.

The film is based on Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Tokyo Toritsu Jujutsu Kōtō Senmon Gakkō (Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Tokyo Prefectural Jujutsu High School) manga prequel story, with MAPPA animating again and TOHO distributing. Megumi Ogata voiced the main character Yuta Okkotsu, and Kana Hanazawa voiced the character Rika Orimoto.
