Man Jailed for Grooming 12 Year-Old Girl He Met at London Anime-Related Event

The news website Kent Online reports that a 30 year-old man has been jailed for a year for grooming a 12 year-old girl who he met at a London anime-related convention in 2018.
According to the report, Adam Eltabib, who is from Chatham in Kent, sent inappropriate WhatsApp messages to the girl after the London event.
Eltabib was investigated by the police for unrelated matters, and arrested at his workplace. Police also found messages to the girl on his smartphone, in which Eltabib said he wanted to have sex with her when she was 16.
He was also found to have 3,000 indecent images on his computer. He claimed to be downloading the images to bring down the people who made them, but this was dismissed by the Judge.
According to the report, "Eltabib had used the name of an anime character known to stalk and spy on women."
The London event where Eltabib met the girl was not named in the report, but was described as "a convention for fans of anime, cosplay and comics."
Statman said the effect on the girl had been deeply upsetting, causing her health to suffer. "A young girl was being asked in these texts to confront adult issues, and you took advantage of her, expressing your sexual desires," Statman told Eltabib.
Eltabib admitted having sexual conversations with a child, and to making prohibited images.
