The Scifi Japan website reported on Wednesday that U.S. home video distribution company Mill Creek Entertainment and U.K. distribution company Indigo Entertainment have licensed more than 1,100 episodes and 20 films of Tsuburaya Productions' Ultraman tokusatsu franchise for both physical and digital distribution.
Mill Creek Entertainment will first release the Ultra Q and the original Ultraman series on Blu-ray Disc releases on October 15, with both shows having standard and limited edition SteelBook releases.
Mill Creek Entertainment noted that its license includes classic television series remastered in HD, as well as recent films and series, including "almost everything produced" in the last 50 years for the franchise. The companies however did not specifically state which series and films their license includes.
The latest entry in the franchise, Ultraman Taiga, premiered on TV Tokyo on July 6. Netflix also recently premiered a 3D CG anime for the franchise on April 1 based on Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi's manga sequel to the original Ultraman series. The anime will have a second season.
