posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
The March issue of Kodansha's Afternoon magazine revealed on Friday that Daisuke Igarashi's Designs manga is entering its climax in the magazine's May issue on March 25.
The manga's story centers on so-called "Humanized Animals" (HA), genetically engineered hybrids of man and animal who possess extraordinary physical abilities. They show their worth when they are sent to the scenes of massacres to enact the ambitions of other people. The purpose of their creation is tied to a grand plan for humanity's future.
Igarashi launched the manga in Afternoon in April 2015. Kodansha published the manga's third compiled book volume on Wednesday.
Igarashi's Little Forest manga inspired two live-action films in 2014 and 2015.
Igarashi's Children of the Sea (Kaijū no Kodomo) manga is also inspiring an upcoming anime film adaptation by Studio 4°C. Igarashi launched the manga in Shogakukan's IKKI magazine in 2007, and ended it in 2011. Shogakukan published five compiled book volumes for the manga, and Viz Media published all five volumes in English. The manga earned nominations and awards of excellence from the 38th Japan Cartoonist Awards, the American Library Association's Young Adult Library Services Association, the School Library Journal, and the 13th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards.
Update: The manga ended in the May issue on March 25.
