Godzilla: King of the Monsters Film Gets Companion Graphic Novel in Spring 2019

Legendary Comics announced on Thursday that Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the sequel film to Legendary Pictures' 2014 Godzilla movie, will get a companion graphic novel in spring 2019 titled Godzilla: Aftershock. Arvid Nelson is writing the graphic novel, and Drew Edward Johnson is drawing the art.
Legendary Comics noted that the graphic novel's story is set after the 2014 Godzilla film, and introduces characters from the upcoming film. The company describes the story:
The brilliant and driven Monarch operative Dr. Emma Russell races to stop the threat as clues emerge to reveal a terrible secret—a tragedy, of apocalyptic proportions from the distant past that changed the course of human history, is returning to threaten it once more. A shadowy figure stalks Emma's every move as she travels the globe to uncover secrets, while Godzilla clashes in an ancient rivalry as old as the earth itself. The fate of the world lies in the balance in an epic confrontation that no Godzilla fan will want to miss.
The film was originally slated for March 22, 2019, but is now scheduled to open on May 31, 2019.
Michael Dougherty (Krampus) is directing the sequel, after co-writing the script with his Krampus writing partner Zach Shields. Dougherty previously led the writing room collaborators who brainstormed how to unite the current Godzilla and King Kong projects under Legendary's "MonsterVerse" franchise.
The planned Godzilla vs. Kong crossover film from director Adam Wingard is slated for May 22, 2020.
