Dragon Quest XI Game for Switch Officially Announced as Dragon Quest XI S

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Game launched in the West on PS4, PC on September 4

Square Enix formally announced at Tokyo Game Show on Sunday that it is producing a Nintendo Switch version of its Dragon Quest XI: Sugisarishi Toki o Motomete (Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age) role-playing game.

While Square Enix had stated in 2015 that it planned to release the game on the Switch (then known as "NX") console, the website and promotional videos for the game starting in late 2016 all listed the game only for the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS.

Wall Street Journal reporter Takashi Mochizuki had said on his Twitter account in April 2017 that a public relations representative said "support is planned" for a Nintendo Switch version of the game, but Square Enix had not officially announced the version before Sunday.

Square Enix describes the game:

A young man, about to participate in his village's coming of age ceremony, heads off to the top of the local lookout point alongside his childhood friend. After a series of unexpected events, this intrepid adventurer learns he is the reincarnation of a legendary hero from a forgotten age.
The young hero sets forth into an unknown world on a journey to unravel the mystery of his past…but the welcome he receives is far from warm.
Upon revealing his identity to the King, the hero is branded as “The Darkspawn” and hunted by a relentless army.
Fleeing from his pursuers, the hero assembles a band of endearing adventurers who believe he is actually the Luminary reborn. He and his newfound companions embark on a quest that will take them across continents and over vast oceans as they learn of an ominous threat facing the world.

The game launched for both PS4 and PC (via Steam) in North America and Europe on September 4. The game shipped in Japan for PS4 and Nintendo 3DS in July 2017.
