Capcom Shuts Down Vancouver Studio

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Studio developed Dead Rising sequel games

CAPCOM revealed on Tuesday it has "decided to cancel the development projects" at its CAPCOM Vancouver studio as part of a reallocation of its development resources. CAPCOM suspended operations at the studio effective Tuesday, with all current staff being laid off and the studio planned for closure. Due to the cancellation of these development projects, CAPCOM announced that it expects to record a loss of 4.5 billion yen (about US$40 million) for the six months of the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2019.

CAPCOM noted that due to the performance of Monster Hunter: World, now the best-selling title in the company's history, the company's consolidated business results forecast remains the same as announced projections from May.

CAPCOM Vancouver was founded in 2005 as Blue Castle Games, and it developed Dead Rising 2, the sequel to CAPCOM's Xbox 360 action game Dead Rising. CAPCOM acquired the studio and renamed it to CAPCOM Vancouver in 2010 after releasing Dead Rising 2. The studio then went on to develop the Dead Rising 3 and Dead Rising 4 sequels. The studio also developed the Puzzle Fighter smartphone game, which launched in November 2017, and shut down in July.
