The September issue of Kadokawa's Dengeki G's Comic magazine revealed on July 30 that Masaru Oda will launch a three-chapter manga adaptation Sakurako Kimino's Love Live! Sunshine!! School idol diary novels on August 30. The manga, titled Love Live! Sunshine!! School idol diary: Chika Riko Yō-hen, will focus on the second years in the Aqours group.
The manga adapts the first in a series of four novels that were bundled with the limited edition Blu-ray Disc volumes of the first season of the Love Live! Sunshine!! anime in Japan.
The first Love Live! School idol project anime also had a similar School idol diary novel series by KiMiNO, and those novels similiarly received manga adaptations. Oda drew the first of the manga adaptations, which ran for three volumes.
Oda is also drawing the ongoing manga adaptation of the Love Live! Sunshine!! anime. Oda launched the manga in Kadokawa's Dengeki G's Magazine in March 2016. Kadokawa published the manga's second compiled book volume (seen right) in July 2017.
The Love Live! Sunshine!! project was first announced in February 2015. The project's three key phrases are "Reader Participation," "Inspired by μ's," and "Seaside Town Setting." The group's name Aqours was chosen by fans by popular vote.
The first Love Live! Sunshine!! anime premiered in July 2016. Funimation, Crunchyroll, and Daisuki streamed the series outside of Japan. The second season of Love Live! Sunshine!! ran from October to December last year. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan, and Funimation streamed an English dub.
The franchise is getting the Love Live! Sunshine!! The School Idol Movie Over the Rainbow anime film with an all-new story on January 4.
