Square Enix began streaming a trailer for the Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age (Dragon Quest XI: Sugisarishi Toki o Motomete) game on Friday. The video previews the game's companion characters that can join the main character's party.
The game will launch for both PS4 and PC via Steam in North America and Europe on September 4. However, the game will not have a release for the Nintendo 3DS in the West like it did in Japan. A Square Enix representative told IGN that the planned Nintendo Switch version for the West will not ship this year, and it may ship "much later."
Square Enix will offer an "Edition of Light," which includes the game on PlayStation 4, reversible cover art, and bonus DLC. In addition, there will be a Square Enix Store-exclusive "Edition of Lost Time," which will include the Edition of Light along with a map poster, steelbook case, art book, symphonic suite CD, and more DLC.
The game shipped in Japan for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS in July 2017. Wall Street Journal reporter Takashi Mochizuki said on his Twitter account that a public relations representative said "support is planned" for a Nintendo Switch version of the game, but no announcements have been made.
The game's protagonist is a young hero raised in the tranquil town of Ishi in the game's world of "Lotozetacia." On the day he turned 16 (when one becomes an adult at Ishi), he embarks on an adventure. The protagonist's friend is Kamyu, a blue-haired thief whom the protagonist encountered on his journey.
