Sega revealed on Friday that its Shenmue I & II game collection will launch in Japan for PlayStation 4 on November 22. The company began streaming a trailer.
In Japan, Shenmue 1 & II will ship with both a standard edition and a limited edition that comes with a 40-track soundtrack album on two discs. Both editions will include a double-sided poster.
Sega will release the game collection in North America and Europe for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on August 21. In the West, it will also be available on Xbox One and PC.
The games will feature both Japanese and English audio, the choice of classic or modern controls, HD resolution, updated user interface, controller and mouse/keyboard support, and new post processing effects. For Shenmue II, Sega is porting the Xbox version instead of the Dreamcast version.
SEGA released the first Shenmue on its Dreamcast console in Japan in 1999, and in North America in 2000. The company released Shenmue II on the Dreamcast in Japan in 2000, and in North America in 2001. Shenmue II also received an Xbox version in 2002. The series was originally planned as a trilogy.
Series director Yū Suzuki ran a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2015 to fund development for Shenmue III, with an initial goal of US$2 million. The campaign met that goal within nine hours of launching, before adding additional stretch goals.
Shenmue III was originally slated for release in December 2017, but was pushed back to the second half of 2018 and then to 2019. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 4 and PC.
