Cute High Earth Defense Club Happy Kiss! Anime Reveals New Lead Characters

The official website for the Cute High Earth Defense Club (Binan Kōkō Chikyū Bōei-bu) franchise announced details on the main characters for its new Binan Kōkō Chikyū Bōei-bu Happy Kiss! (Cute High Earth Defense Club HAPPY KISS!) anime on Friday.

The characters are as follows:

Kyōtarō Shuzenji, a second year at Binan High School. He does not put feeling into anything, and only likes taking baths. When he seems like he's listening to other people, he's probably not. He goes to Binan because it is close to his house.

Ryōma Kirishima, a second year at Binan High School. He seems like a stable person but is a pushover. His inability to say "no" lands him in the mysterious "Earth Defense Club." He has a teasable personality, so Wakura in particular will take advantage of this. He can't turn his back on his childhood friend Shuzenji.

Nanao Wakura, a third year at Binan High School, and current president of the defense club. He is always smiling. For some reason, no one can say no to him. He may get stressed due to silence. He loves to tease Kirishima.

Taishi Manza, a first year at Binan High School. He is a walking dictionary and font of wisdom and talks incessantly. He is jealous of his classmate Dōgo's recklessness, but wisdom always wins over.

Ichiro Dōgo, a first year at Binan High School. He is hot-headed, reckless, and puts his all into everything. He is not very smart, but he gets by with his decisive personality.

Ponycan USA describes the first anime's premise:

Binan is a city somewhere in Japan. The "Earth Defense Club" at Binan High School was a club that did absolutely nothing. When club members Atsushi Kinugawa and En Yufuin were chilling out while soaking in the hot tub at the bathhouse Kurotamayu, a pink beast (Wombat) suddenly appeared out of thin air. "I want to save this planet... can you please lend me your strength?" The two feel the mood has been ruined by Wombat, who talks to them in Japanese about how he wants to save Earth with the power of love. Just then, the son of the bathhouse owner Yumoto Hakone shows up, and as soon as he sees Wombat, he chases it, screaming "Let me fluff you up!"

The next day, Kinugawa and Yufuin are caught by Wombat once again at school along with the other club members Io Naruko and Ryu Zaou. Bracelets clasp onto the wrists of these four, along with Yumoto Hakone, who bumped into them after chasing after Wombat, with a command that they must save the Earth. "It's about love-making!" they hear as a bright light emanating from the bracelet envelops their entire bodies. The five transform into the "Battle Lovers," the heirs to the throne of love...

The first Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! television anime season premiered in Japan in January 2015. Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Viewster streamed the anime as it aired in Japan. Ponycan USA released the series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc combo packs. The second television anime, Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! LOVE!, premiered in Japan in July 2016. Funimation and Crunchyroll both streamed the series as it aired in Japan. An original video anime project titled Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! opened in theaters on August 26. Crunchyroll began streaming the OVA in November. The OVA had been billed in July as the "series concluding chapter."
