The September issue of Kadokawa's Gundam Ace magazine published the first chapter of illustrator Kazuhisa Kondō's new MS Senki Reboot manga on Wednesday. The manga reboots a previous manga illustrated by Kondō and written by Masaya Takahashi titled MS Senki: Kidō Senshi Gundam 0079 Gaiden, which ran in Kodansha's Comic BomBom magazine from 1984 to 1985. The magazine noted that "after 20 years, the MS Senki manga gets a reboot!"
The original manga is set during the original Mobile Suit Gundam anime's One-Year War, and centers on Frederick Brown, a military cadet in the Principality of Zeon who must now join as a soldier when Zeon declares war on the Federation.
The manga received a sequel titled Shin MS Senki: Kidō Senshi Gundam Tanpenshū that ran in Comic BomBom from 1988 to 1994.
Kondō is known for his manga set during the Universal Century timeline of the original Mobile Suit Gundam, and for his military aesthetic and realism in portraying weapons and warfare in the Gundam universe. He drew the Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 manga adaptation of the original anime, as well as the Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam manga adaptation. He also drew the Sidestory of Gundam Zeta manga, which portrays a different beginning to Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. He also drew and wrote the Mobile Suit Vor!!, Operation Buran U.C.0079, and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Revival of Zeon manga.
