PS4 game ships August 29 in N. America, Europe

Sega America began streaming an English-subtitled promotional video for its Yakuza Kiwami (Ryū ga Gotoku Kiwami) PlayStation 4 game on Thursday. The video previews different fighting styles, town exploration, and minigames such as Mahjong and karaoke.

Sega is also releasing a digital comic for the game series on its website. The comic begins with events from Yakuza 0 and will continue the story to Yakuza 6: The Song of Life.

Yakuza Kiwami is a full remake of the original Yakuza (Ryū ga Gotoku) game, and features completely recreated graphics to run on the PS4 in 1080p and at 60 frames per second. The Japanese cast rerecorded their lines for the game, and Sega's Western release will mark the first time the original Yakuza game will have a Japanese-language release in the West. The remake includes enhanced fighting gameplay. The game also includes a new "Majima Everywhere" system, where Goro Majima will show up in the game at "at the most inopportune of times."

The game shipped in Japan on January 21 for the PS3 and the PS4.

Sega will release the game in North America on August 29, and Deep Silver is releasing the game in Europe, where it is listed with the same release date. Both companies will release the game in a digital and physical format.

Sega will also release Yakuza 6: The Song of Life (Ryū ga Gotoku 6: Inochi no Uta) in the West on PlayStation 4. The game is the first mainline release in the franchise that will keep the subtitle in the English title of the game. Sega will release the game in the West in early 2018.

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life shipped in Japan on the PlayStation 4 on December 8. The game inspired an online live-action adaptation with a completely new story that premiered on January 11.

Sega released the Yakuza 0 (Ryū ga Gotoku 0: Chikai no Basho) prequel game in North America and Europe on the PS4 in on January 24. Sega released Yakuza 5 in the West with all the original Japanese DLC in December 2015.
