Amatsuki Manga Ends With 24th Volume This Winter

Manga about teen stuck in virtual reality Edo inspired 2008 anime

The 23rd compiled volume of Shinobu Takayama's Amatsuki manga announced on Saturday that the series is planned to end with the 24th volume this winter. The volume made the announcement in a short comic in which two characters have a conversation — when one character gets upset about the ending the other is quick to say it is just the plan. The comic also jokes that there will be a sequel like "Amatsuki Z" or "Amatsuki R."

The manga launched in 2005 and inspired an anime adaptation in 2008. The manga is ongoing in Ichijinsha's Monthly Comic Zero-Sum magazine.

The story follows Japanese high school student Rikugō Tokidoki, who fails a history test. To study up, he goes to a museum which lets him use virtual reality to simulate being in the Edo period. However, he is attacked by a strange creature, loses sight in one eye, and realizes he is no longer wearing his VR goggles — he is trapped in the virtual reality version of Edo.
