Anime Limited/Funimation Updates

A Silent Voice cinema dates in March; Blu-ray only releases for Funimation's Brothers Conflict, Heavy Object and Snow White with the Red Hair

Anime Limited made the following announcements regarding Anime Limited and Funimation releases:

- The cinema release of Kyoto Animation's A Silent Voice will be on Wednesday March 15, with further screenings in select cinemas from Friday March 17. 'There will be a dedicated website, similar to the one we had for your name. screenings, that will correlate all the screening locations and times. We'll share the details of this site once all is finalised and locked in.'

- The film will also be screened at the Glasgow Film Festival, including a Q&A session with the director Naoko Yamada (tickets), at the Glasgow Film Theatre. Anime Limited specifies that this is the only screening she can attend, and there will be no photo or signing opportunities. Also, any photography or recording at the event is prohibited.

- Funimation's upcoming releases of Brothers Conflict, Snow White with the Red Hair and Heavy Object will all now be Blu-releases only. (Previously, Brothers Conflict was due to be a Blu-ray/DVD combi pack, while Snow White with the Red Hair and Heavy Object were due to be released on both Blu-ray and DVD.)

According to Anime Limited, "The reason for this is the requirement by the licensor that the DVD is released in PAL. Unfortunately remastering as a PAL for the DVD release has prohibitive costs that, based on the titles involved and the current level of demand, are difficult to absorb, therefore releasing these on DVD is no longer possible. Unless there were extraordinary demand for these titles on DVD it is very unlikely that DVD releases of these would be explored again in the future."
