Theater company Republic of Shimaaan and free manga app comico launched a website on Friday to announce that Katana Sajima's Saku wa Edo ni mo Sono Soshitsu (That Character Blooms in Edo Too) manga series will receive a stage play adaptation in Japan this spring. Republic of Shimaaan's Sadayoshi Shimane will direct the production and write the scripts.
The play will run for eight performances in Tokyo at Shibuya Cultural Center Owada's Densho Hall from May 3-7, followed by five performances in Osaka at Asahi Broadcasting Corporation's ABC Hall from May 10-12. The production will announce the cast and more details in late February.
Set in Japan's Edo period, the original manga follows three girls who become captivated by boys' love after reading the novel Nansō Satomi Hakkenden (The Eight Dog Chronicles).
Sajima launched the manga on comico's digital app in January 2014. Comico will publish the manga's fourth and fifth compiled book volumes on February 10. The fifth volume will be the series' last.
