Sanzigen Studio Establishes New Studio in Nagoya

CG animation company's 4th studio opens in April

SANZIGEN Animation Studio announced on its official website on Wednesday that it will open a new studio in Nagoya in April. The new studio will be the company's fourth, following its studios in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Fukuoka.

SANZIGEN's stated goal with the establishment of the new studio is to tap talented animators in more locations within Japan, and further the company's objective to make its "cel-look" 3D CG animation more well-known worldwide.

SANZIGEN was founded in 2003, and incorporated in 2006 by former Gonzo employees (including current CEO Hiroaki Matsuura) as a studio specializing in CGI animation. The company has worked on CG production for various anime, such as Wooser's Hand-to-Mouth Life, 009 Re:Cyborg, the new Initial D films, and The Heroic Legend of Arslan. The company has produced anime such as the Arpeggio of Blue Steel television anime and its subsequent films, and the Miss Monochrome series.

The studio recently produced its BBK/BRNK television anime to celebrate the company's 10th anniversary since being formally incorporated. The first season premiered earlier this year in January, while the second season, titled BBK/BRNK: The Gentle Giants of the Galaxy, premiered on October 1 and is currently airing. It is also collaborating with Code Geass and Planetes director Gorō Taniguchi on the ID-0 anime project.

In 2011, SANZIGEN formed the Ultra Super Pictures holding firm alongside Studio Trigger and Ordet. Matsuura serves as SANZIGEN's representative in the firm.
