Live-Action Guyver Movies Get Limited Re-Issue
posted on by Karen Ressler
Warner Archive is now offering manufactured-on-demand DVD re-issues of The Guyver and The Guyver 2 (Guyver 2: Dark Hero) live-action films.
New Line Cinema released The Guyver directly to video in 1991 and the sequel in 1994. New Line Cinema then released both on DVD in 2004.
The first film stars Jack Armstrong as the protagonist Sean Barker and Mark Hamill (Star Wars) as CIA agent Max Reed. In the sequel, David Hayter (Metal Gear Solid) plays Sean.
The films are based on Yoshiki Takaya's ongoing Bio-Booster Armor Guyver manga. The manga also inspired an OVA series from 1989-1992 and a television anime from 2005-2006. Viz Media released part of the manga in English from 1995-1998, Manga Entertainment released the OVAs in North America, and ADV Films and later FUNimation Entertainment released the television anime.
