Funimation to Stream planetarian Anime
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Funimation revealed on Thursday that it will stream the planetarian anime, which adapts Key's planetarian ~the reverie of a little planet~ visual novel. The announcement did not reveal the launch date, or if Funimation will stream the five-episode net anime or the film.
Funimation describes the anime:
For thirty years, companion robot Hoshino Yumemi has patiently waited to show someone the stars. Left in an abandoned planetarium, she sits hoping for customers that will never show. That is, until a Junker– a plunderer of goods and artifacts from the ruins of civilization—stumbles upon the crumbling establishment. Will he help her repair the planetarium, or will she be alone once more?
The anime's official website previously streamed a trailer for both the net anime and film in April.
The five-episode anime is titled planetarian: Chiisana Hoshi no Yume (planetarian: The Dream of the Small Star) and the film is titled planetarian: Hoshi no Hito (planetarian: Star Person). The net anime will premiere on July 7, and the film will open on September 3. The video description of the trailer describes planetarian: Chiisana Hoshi no Yume as "This is a certain woman's story" and describes planetarian: Hoshi no Hito as "This is a certain man's story." The net anime will adapt the main game's story, and the film will be "another story" about what happens to Kuzuya afterward.
The main cast stars Daisuke Ono as Kuzuya (lit. The Junk Hunter) and Keiko Suzuki as Yumemi Hoshino. Other cast members without role credits include: Yasumichi Kushida, Satoshi Taki, Rina Satō, Masaru Shinozuka, Sanae Fuku, Yōko Hikasa, Minami Tsuda, Shizuka Ishigami, Yūki Kuwahara, Akiko Takeguchi, and Tamio Ohki.
Naokatsu Tsuda (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Inu X Boku Secret Service) is directing and writing both projects at david production (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series). Shogo Yasukawa (Terraformars, Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) is writing the scripts alongside Tsuda. Katsuichi Nakayama (Nishi no Yoki Majo - Astraea Testament) and Shunsuke Machitani (episode director for Oreimo, Kurokami The Animation, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders) are the series directors. Hitomi Takechi (Hyperdimension Neptunia) is adapting Eeji Komatsu's original character designs for animation. Sayaka Sasaki is performing the net anime's ending theme song "Twinkle Starlight," Ceui is performing an image song titled "Worlds Pain," and Lia is performing the film's theme song "Hoshi no Fune" (Starship).
The net anime will stream in Japan on Niconico as well as the following services: J:COM On Demand, milplus, au Video Pass, d Anime Store, Bandai Channel, PlayStation Store, U-NEXT, Anime Hōdai, and GYAO!, among other services.
Visual Art's/Key (Clannad, Rewrite, Angel Beats!) originally released the planetarian ~the reverie of a little planet~ "kinetic novel" in Japan on personal computers in 2004 before porting it to the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable consoles. Sekai Project licensed the PC version of the game and released it on Steam in September 2014. VisualArt's also released an English version for iOS.
