Southeast Asian channel Animax Asia began streaming an English-subtitled preview on Saturday for its airing of the Young Black Jack television anime. In addition, the channel revealed the anime's premiere date of June 6. Animax Asia will air two episodes every day on Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:00 p.m. in Jakarta and Bangkok, and 11:00 p.m. in Singapore and the Philippines.
The 12-episode series premiered last October in Japan.
Yū-Go Ōkuma and Yoshiaki Tabata's Young Black Jack manga is a prequel to Black Jack, Osamu Tezuka's classic series about a brilliant maverick doctor who practices without a license. The prequel follows Black Jack when he was still a young, unorthodox medical student in 1968.
Mitsuko Kase (SaiKano, Ristorante Paradiso) directed the anime at Tezuka Productions, and Armored Trooper Votoms creator Ryousuke Takahashi supervised and wrote the series scripts. Miyuki Katayama and Nana Miura designed the characters and served as chief animation directors. Minoru Nishida (Phoenix, Jungle Emperor Leo special, Thundercats) and Masato Shibata (Black Jack, Black Jack 21, Phoenix) were the art directors, and Megumi Arai was the color key artist.
Kazumasa Someya was the director of photography, and Tamami Watabe edited. Toshiki Kameyama directed the sound at Groove, and Daisuke Ikeda (Golgo 13, Project ARMS) composed the music at Being. The duo UMI☆KUUN performed the opening theme song "I Am Just Feeling Alive," and Takuto handled the ending song "All Categorize."
