Short episodes to stream for a limited time

The official website for the Re: Life in a different world from zero (Re: Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu) television anime series began streaming the fourth episode of Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Break Time on Tuesday.

The spinoff anime short series airs after each episode of the main anime's airing. The episode will be available online until May 17 at 6:00 p.m. JST.

In the episode, Subaru is talking to Rem and Ram about the dinner he ate, and tells the two that it was delicious. Ram says that it was obviously delicious because her beloved sister Rem made it. After commenting on how "touching" it is to see the sister who didn't even make the dinner be so confident about it, he asks them why Rem made the fox sign with her fingers during dinner. Ram is confused, but tells him that the sign he is referring to is one that Rem uses to express happiness. Rem notes that when she showed him that sign, Subaru showed her a sign of his own: a frog. Although he did it on a whim, he finds himself apologizing because Ram's attitude leads him to believe that it was an offensive sign. Rem assures him that the frog symbol means nothing in their world.

Moving along in their conversation, Ram calls Subaru "Barusu" once again. When Subaru confirms that she plans to continue to call him this, he calls her "Ramchi." When she repeats it back to him in confusion, he says "Yeah. Isn't it cute, Ramchi?" Before Ram can say anything about the new nickname, though, Rem tells Subaru that if they don't go to the next place soon, they won't finish their work. Ram tells him that he's a failure as a servant since he holds Rem back.

The shorts feature the main television anime's cast members, including Yūsuke Kobayashi as Subaru Natsuki, Rie Takahashi as Emilia, and Yumi Uchiyama as Puck.

Minoru Ashina (Lord Marksman and Vanadis ONA, Boku, Otaryman, Agriculture Angel Baraki) is serving as director, scriptwriter, and producer of the shorts at Studio Puyukai. Minoru Takehara (Lord Marksman and Vanadis ONA) is designing the super-deformed characters and is also credited with the animation.

The Re: Life in a different world from zero anime premiered on April 3. Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs in Japan.

Masaharu Watanabe (Wakaba Girl director, episode director for The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) is directing the anime at Studio White FOX. Masahiro Yokotani (Maria Holic, both seasons of Free!, SHIMONETA: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn’t Exist) is handling the series composition, and Kyuta Sakai (Steins;Gate, Sankarea: Undying Love, Humanity Has Declined) is designing the characters and serving as chief animation director.

The anime is inspired by Tappei Nagatsuki and illustrator Shinichirou Otsuka's light novel series of the same name, which Yen Press will publish in North America along with a manga adaptation. In the story, Subaru Natsuki is an ordinary high school student who is lost in an alternate world, where he is rescued by a beautiful, silver-haired girl. He stays near her to return the favor, but the destiny she is burdened with is more than Subaru can imagine. Enemies attack one by one, and both of them are killed. He then finds out he has the power to rewind death, back to the time he first came to this world. But only he remembers what has happened since.
