D.C. native also sang Tantei Team KZ Jiken Note TV anime's theme

The staff of Otakon announced on Monday that Diana Garnet, an American singer who has contributed anime theme songs for Naruto and Tantei Team KZ Jiken Note, will perform at the convention's Otakon Matsuri event on August 11.

The convention describes Garnet's journey from America to Japan:

Born in Washington D.C., U.S.A., Garnet was heavily influenced by her anime-loving father, and was immersed into anime culture at a young age. Hearing [the Magic Knight Rayearth opening theme song] "Yuzurenai Negai" by Naomi Tamura inspired her lifetime goal to become a singer in Japan.

On her third trip to Japan, she began to work as a middle-school English teacher, when a life-changing opportunity arose. In 2013, she took part in Nodojiman! THE WORLD 2013 Spring, a nationwide karaoke TV show for foreigners on NTV, and was crowned the winner. She also secured a major label debut at the same time.

Garnet had already released one single and a mini album before she sang the "Spinning World" ending theme song for the Naruto Shippūden television anime last year. She then performed the theme song "Nankai! Mystery" (Tough to Solve! Mystery) for the television anime Tantei Team KZ Jiken Note (Detective Team Kazs' Case Notes). She also sang on FLOW's best album as a guest vocalist, and was named as one of the “likely breakout stars of 2015” in Yahoo! Japan's Video Topic Awards.

Otakon Matsuri will be held at Baltimore's West Shore Park on August 11, a day before the main convention runs from August 12 to August 14 at the Baltimore Convention Center.
