Happy Marriage!? Manga Gets Live-Action Drama Series
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
A live-action drama series adaptation of Maki Enjōji's Happy Marriage!? manga has been green-lit. The drama will star Dean Fujioka (live-action Dame na Watashi ni Koishite Kudasai) and Nana Seino (Tokyo Mukokuseki Shōjo), and will premiere exclusively on the Amazon Prime Video service starting near the end of June.
Oricon Style describes the series:
Chiwa Takanishi (Nana Seino) works in an office in the morning, and as a hostess in the evening to make ends meet. One day, she gets into an argument with a customer at the hostess bar, and she gets fired. The next day, when her superior at work calls her in, the one waiting for her was Hokuto Mamiya (Dean Fujioka), the one she argued with the night before. Suddenly, he proposes a contract marriage to Chiwa. At first, Chiwa rebels against the prideful and selfish Hokuto, but soon learns about his past, and finds herself drawn to him. Hokuto also begins to be touched by the kindness and cheerfulness in Chiwa, and their marriage that began by contract slowly progresses to one where they are truly husband and wife.
Director Kentaro Otani (co-director for the live-action Black Butler film) and scriptwriter Taeko Asano (Clover) are reuniting on the project after having previously worked together on the live-action NANA film.
Enjōji (Private Prince, Yoru Cafe) launched the manga in Shogakukan's Petit Comic magazine in 2009, and ended it in 2012. Shogakukan published 10 compiled book volumes for the series. Viz Media released all 10 volumes in North America from August 2013 to February 2015.
