The official U.S. PlayStation blog announced on Tuesday that SNK Playmore will release The Last Blade 2 fighting game on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita on May 24. The game will be available for cross-buy (purchasing the title digitally on one platform also enables it to be played on another platform). SNK Playmore also began streaming a trailer for the game.
SNK Playmore describes the game:
Hell's Gate, the boundary between life and death. Four Mythological Symbols are about to fight to the death against an ultimate spirit awakened from the netherworld, and send him straight back to Hell! Taking place during the end of the Edo period, a mystical and spectacular story is about to unfold.
The game will contain a local and online multiplayer mode, and will have cross-play and cross-save functionality between the PS4 and PS Vita. SNK Playmore will also offer a PS4 and PS Vita menu theme based on the game alongside the game's release.
The game allows players to choose between Power, Speed, and Extreme styles for each of the game's 18 characters, with each style modifying the combo method, special moves, damage, and health of each character. The game also has a Repel mechanic that allows players to repel an enemy attack and counter with their own.
SNK released the original The Last Blade in arcades in 1997, and on its Neo Geo platform in 1998. SNK released The Last Blade 2 in arcades in 1998, on the Neo Geo in 1999, and on the Dreamcast in 2000. SNK released then released both games on the Nintendo Wii's Virtual Console in 2012.
