Porno Graffiti, Brian the Sun Perform My Hero Academia Anime's Theme Songs

posted on by Egan Loo
Rock band Brian the Sun's major label debut will be anime's ending theme

This year's 12th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is revealing on Monday the performers of the theme songs for the television anime of Kōhei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia (Boku no Hero Academia) manga. The rock band Porno Graffiti is performing the opening, and the rock band Brian the Sun is performing the ending as their major label debut.

Viz Media is publishing the manga, and it describes the story:

What would the world be like if 80 percent of the population manifested superpowers called "Quirks" at age four? Heroes and villains would be battling it out everywhere! Being a hero would mean learning to use your power, but where would you go to study? The Hero Academy of course! But what would you do if you were one of the 20 percent who were born Quirkless?

Middle school student Izuku Midoriya wants to be a hero more than anything, but he hasn't got an ounce of power in him. With no chance of ever getting into the prestigious U.A. High School for budding heroes, his life is looking more and more like a dead end. Then an encounter with All Might, the greatest hero of them all, gives him a chance to change his destiny...

The cast includes:

Daiki Yamashita (Yowamushi Pedal's Sakamichi Onoda, Log Horizon's Tōya) as Izuku Midoriya

Kenta Miyake (Assassination Classroom's Akira Takaoka, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders' Mohammed Abdul) as All Might

Nobuhiko Okamoto (A Certain Magical Index's Accelerator, Bakuman.'s Eiji Niizuma) as Katsuki Bakugō

Ayane Sakura (Love Live! School idol project's Arisa Ayase, Terraformars' Eva Frost) as Ochako Uraraka

Kaito Ishikawa (One-Punch Man's Genos, Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet's Ledo) as Tenya Iida

Aoi Yūki (ERASED's Kayo Hinazuki, One-Punch Man's Tornado Tsumaki) as Tsuyu Asui

Ryou Hirohashi (Girl Friend BETA's Nozomi Miyauchi, Baccano!'s Chane Laforet) as Minoru Mineta

Marina Inoue (Haganai's Yozora, Owarimonogatari's Sodachi) as Momo Yaoyorozu

Yoshimasa Hosoya (Free! Eternal Summer's Sōsuke, Haikyu!!'s Asahi) as Fumikage Tokoyami

Tasuku Hatanaka (Ushio & Tora's Ushio, Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal's Yūma Tsukumo) as Denki Kaminari

Toshiki Masuda (Samurai Flamenco's titular character, Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal's Ryōga Kamishiro) as Eijirō Kirishima

Yuuki Kaji (Attack on Titan's Eren, World Trigger's Osamu Mikumo) as Shōto Todoroki

Kenji Nagasaki (Gundam Build Fighters, Classroom Crisis, No. 6) is directing the anime at the studio BONES (Blood Blockade Battlefront, Concrete Revolutio, Fullmetal Alchemist). Yousuke Kuroda (Gundam Build Fighters, Honey and Clover, Trigun) is overseeing the series' scripts. Yoshihiko Umakoshi (Air Master, Heartcatch Precure!, Berserk) is designing the characters for animation.

The anime will air on the MBS/TBS channel network's "Nichigo" timeslot every Sunday at 5:00 p.m. starting on April 3.

Horikoshi launched the manga in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in July 2014, and Shueisha shipped the seventh volume on February 4, and a limited edition of the volume shipped with a drama CD. Horikoshi wrote the new story for the CD, and the anime's series composition writer Yousuke Kuroda turned the story into the drama CD's script.

Viz Media is releasing the manga in English digitally as Shueisha publishes new chapters in Japan. The company also published the third volume in print on February 2.

The manga inspired Hirofumi Neda's Boku no Hero Academia Smash!! manga on Shueisha's digital Shonen Jump+ app. The manga launched in November. Viz Media published a preview of the manga in English in its Weekly Shonen Jump digital manga anthology. The manga is also inspiring a novel adaptation, a My Hero Academia: Battle for All Nintendo 3DS game, and an arcade card game.
