posted on by Karen Ressler
The official Girls und Panzer blog confirmed on Friday that the Girls und Panzer anime film will have 4DX screenings at 30 theaters. The 4DX screenings will begin in 27 of these theaters on February 20, followed by three more on March 20.
The blog also update the list of regular theaters. The regular theater list and the 4DX theater list combined bring the film to 171 theaters.
With the 4DX systems, certain theaters have motion seats that move in sync with certain action sequences onscreen. Similarly, effects such as scents and wind will operate in accordance with the action onscreen. The Attack on Titan compilation films and the live-action Attack on Titan films had 4DX screenings. The Shin Gekijō-ban Initial D Legend 3 -Mugen- will also be shown in 4DX in selected theaters on February 6.
The Girls und Panzer anime film opened in Japan last November, ranking #2 at the Japanese box office and selling 84,752 tickets for 128,438,980 yen (about US$1.05 million) on its opening weekend. The film has sold 622,610 tickets for 906,915,824 yen (about US$7,724,356) as of January 14.
The anime franchise began with a television series that premiered in 2012. The story centers around high school girls who drive tanks that exist in real life, as they compete in teams. Crunchyroll and Anime Network both streamed the anime outside Japan. An all-new original video anime (OVA) titled "Kore ga Hontō no Anzio-sen Desu!" (This is the Real Anzio Battle!) premiered in Japanese theaters in July 2014, and the anime shipped on DVD and Blu-ray later that month.
