Voice Actor Minoru Shiraishi Reveals He Has Facial Paralysis
posted on by Karen Ressler
Voice actor Minoru Shiraishi announced on his personal blog on Tuesday that he has facial paralysis and cannot move the right side of his face.
"Since I can't move (the right side of my face) at all, of course there is discomfort," Shiraishi said, "but other than that I am perfectly healthy!" He added, "Aside from being unable to move the right side of my face, it hasn't changed anything yet. I lost half the ability to make facial expressions, but in that case I want to bring twice as much power to performances and talks."
He is undergoing medical examinations and taking prescriptions.
Shiraishi's anime voice roles include Itsuki Takeuchi in Initial D, Taniguchi in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, and Sakamoto-san in Nichijou. He composed and performed theme songs for Lucky Star, where he also played an animated version of himself.
