Moriyamachū Kyōshūjo Manga Gets Live-Action Film

1-volume series centers on apathetic college student, yakuza member who attend unauthorized driving school

Keigo Shinzō's Moriyamachū Kyōshūjo (Moriyamachu Driving School) manga is getting a live-action film adaptation that will premiere in Japan in 2016.

Shinzo serialized the one-volume manga in Shogakukan's Monthly Spirits magazine in 2009-2010 as his first serialized work. The manga centers on Kiyotaka Saitō —an apathetic college student who does things at his own pace — and Todoroki, a poker-faced cool yakuza member. Kiyotaka and Todoroki were classmates in high school, and both men attend an unofficial driving school one summer thanks to a certain incident.

Shūhei Nomura (live-action Chihayafuru's Taichi, Lychee Light Club's Tamiya) will play Kiyotaka, and Kento Kaku (live-action Paradise Kiss' Arashi, Ranma ½ special's male Ranma) will play Todoroki. Yukino Kishii (Lesson of the Evil's Ai) plays Matsuda, a girl who has rejected Kiyotaka; Ken Mitsuishi (13 Assassins, The Big Bee) plays the head of the yakuza group Todoroki belongs to; and Kumiko Asou (Miss Hokusai's Sayogoromo, live-action Space Brothers' Serika) plays Saki, who runs the driving school. Good Luck Heiwa is composing the film's music.

Keisuke Toyoshima (Softboys, live-action xxxHOLiC) is directing the film.
