Chie Shinkyū's Wakako-zake manga is inspiring a second live-action TV series that will premiere on January 8. The 12-episode Wakako-zake Season2 series will air on Fridays at 11:30 p.m. on BS Japan.
Rina Takeda will return to play Wakako in the sequel. Yoshihiro Nozoe and Kenta Kamakari will also return to the series. Nozoe will play the manager of Wakako's favorite store, and Kamakari will play an employee at the same store.
Shinji Kuma, Hiroaki Yuasa, and Yuki Saitō will direct the series and Kumiko Asō, Momoka Meriyama, and Takumi Sugi will write the scripts.
The 12-episode first season aired in January-March this year.
The cuisine manga follows 26-year old Wakako, who drinks different kinds of sake at bars alone every night, searching for her place to belong. Shinkyū started the manga in Monthly Comic Zenon in 2011, and Tokuma Shoten published the fifth volume on July 18.
The manga also inspired a 12-episode series of three-minute anime shorts starring Miyuki Sawashiro that premiered in July. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired.
