The December issue of Akita Shoten's Champion RED magazine announced on Monday that it will publish the final chapter of Yūki Yogo and Yoshiaki Tabata's Shin Mazinger Zero vs. Ankoku Daishōgun manga in the January 2016 issue on November 19.
The duo debuted the series in the February 2013 issue of Champion RED, a few months after their original Shin Mazinger Zero collaboration — which ran alongside the anime remake Shin Mazinger Shōgeki! Z-Hen — ended. The duo had been working together on Shin Mazinger Zero, a re-imagining of the original Mazinger Z, since 2009.
Akita Shoten published the seventh volume of Shin Mazinger Zero vs. Ankoku Daishōgun in September.
Gō Nagai's original Mazinger Z manga launched in 1972 and spawned several anime and manga projects over the decades. Both the original manga and Shin Mazinger Zero follow Kōji Kabuto in his super robot Mazinger Z as he battles Dr. Hell, a mad scientist bent on world domination.
Ankoku Daishōgun is best known as a major antagonist in the 1974-75 Great Mazinger sequel anime. Mazinger Z had previously faced off against Ankoku Daishōgun in the 1974 movie Mazinger Z tai Ankoku Daishōgun, which inspired the 2003 video anime remake Mazinkaiser: Shitou! Ankoku Daishogun.
The Shin Mazinger Zero creative team previously worked together on the science-fiction vigilante story Akumetsu and the Wolf Guy - Wolfen Crest manga series.
