Attack on Titan: End of the World, the second live-action film based on Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan manga, sold 237,016 tickets to earn 327,915,700 yen (about US$2.746 million) during the September 19-20 weekend. As a result, it topped the Japanese box office this past weekend with the most tickets sold. It opened on 427 screens in 332 theaters.
By contrast, the first live-action Attack on Titan film opened during the August 1-2 weekend with about 467,000 tickets sold for about 600 million yen (about US$5 million).
Heroine Shikkaku, another live-action film based on a manga, opened at #2 followed by Ant-Man at #3. The Anthem of the Heart anime film opened at #5.
This year, the five days of September 19-23 were considered in Japan as "Silver Week" — a relatively rare occurrence when three public holidays in September fall consecutively from Monday to Wednesday.
