The official website for Osomatsu-san, the third television anime series based on Fujio Akatsuka's (Akko-chan, Tensai Bakabon, Hennako-chan) Osomatsu-kun gag manga, began streaming the show's second promotional video on Friday.
The series will premiere on TV Tokyo and TV Osaka on Monday, October 5 at 25:35 a.m. (effectively, Tuesday, October 6 at 1:35 a.m.), and it will also run on TV Aichi, AT-X, and BS Japan.
The original manga and "high tension comedy" TV anime centered on the Matsuno household, which has six naughty and mischievous sons (who are sextuplets). All of the sextuplets, including the eldest Osomatsu, are all in love with the same girl, Totoko. The original series followed the family when the sons were 10 years old.
The new anime's cast includes:
Takahiro Sakurai (Code Geass' Suzaku, Mononoke's Medicine Seller) as the eldest son Osomatsu
Yūichi Nakamura (Fairy Tail's Gray, Kimi ni Todoke's Ryū) as the second son Karamatsu
Hiroshi Kamiya (Kuroko's Basketball's Akashi, Noragami's Yato) as the third son Choromatsu
Jun Fukuyama (Code Geass' Lelouch, Wagnaria!!'s Sōta Takanashi) as the fourth son Ichimatsu
Daisuke Ono (Black Butler's Sebastian Michaelis, Magi - The Labyrinth of Magic's Sinbad) as the fifth son Jūshimatsu
Miyu Irino (Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE's Syaoran, Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign's Yuichiro) as the sixth and youngest son Todomatsu
Aya Endo (Lucky Star's Miyuki Takara, Macross Frontier's Sheryl Nome) as the heroine Totoko
Kenichi Suzumura (Accel World's Ash Roller, Gintama's Okita Sougo) as Iyami
Sachi Kokuryu (Gundam Build Fighters' Reiji, B-Daman Crossfire's Subaru Shirogane) as Chibita
Youji Ueda (Ghost in the Shell: Arise's Paz, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's Speedwagon) as Dekapan
Nobuo Tobita (Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam's Kamille Bidan, Ocean Waves' Taku Morisaki) as Dayōn
Momoko Saito (Wagnaria!!'s Nazuna Takahashi, IDOLM@STER: XENOGLOSSIA's Mami Futami) as Hatabō
The staff are creating the new anime to commemorate what would have been Akatsuka's 80th birthday (Akatsuka passed away in 2008 at age 72).
Studio Pierrot is again returning to animate the third series. Yoichi Fujita (Gintama anime franchise) will direct the series, and Shū Matsubara (Gintama) is handling series composition. Naoyuki Asano (Saint Young Men, Shiranpuri) is designing the characters. The idol group AŌP (Ace of Diamond, Insufficient Direction) is performing the theme song "Hanamaru Pippi wa Yoiko Dake" (The Hanamaru Whistle Is Only For Good Kids).
The first 56-episode series aired in Japan in 1966-1967. Akira Shigino (Time Bokan: Royal Revival, Marude Dameo, Crayon Shin-chan: Otakebe! Kasukabe Yasei Ōkoku) directed the series, and Mainichi Broadcasting, Studio Zero, and Children's Corner produced the series. Studio Pierrot animated the second 86-episode series, which aired from 1988-1989. Shigino served as chief director.
Akatsuka launched the Osomatsu-kun manga in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in 1962, and the manga ran in the magazine until 1969. The manga then ran in Weekly Shonen King from 1972-1973, and then in Comic Bonbon from 1987-1990. The compiled manga volumes have more than 10 million copies in print.
