Indonesian cinema chain Cinemaxx announced on Thursday that it will screen the Love Live! The School Idol Movie film in Indonesia. The film will open in Indonesia on October 21. Singaporean anime distribution company Odex will distribute the film in the country.
Odex previously streamed an English-subtitled trailer for the film.
The film premiered in Japan on June 13, and earned 400 million yen (about US$3.24 million) on 121 screens in its first two days. The film eventually earned more than 2.4 billion yen (about US$19 million) as of August 16, 65 days after the film opened at the box office, surpassing the 2.08 billion yen (about US$17.7 million) box-office earnings of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion film, and the 2.28 billion (about US$18.2 million) yen gross of the Eiga Crayon Shin-chan: Ora no Hikkoshi Monogatari ~Saboten Daishūgeki film.
In 2010, the anime studio Sunrise, Lantis, and ASCII Media Works' Dengeki G Magazine launched Love Live! as a self-described "ultimate user-participation project" that lets its fans vote on the future of the fictional idols. A series of music CDs and animated music videos then followed. The members of the project announced in 2012 that a full anime series had been green-lit for the following year. The second season of the anime was announced in June 2013, and it debuted in April 2014.
