Hetalia Franchise Gets Musical Adaptation in Tokyo in December
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Hidekaz Himaruya's Hetalia - Axis Powers manga and television anime franchise is getting a musical adaptation in Tokyo in December. The musical will run at the Zepp Blue Theater Roppongi from December 24-29.
Yūsei Naruse (Yowamushi Pedal, Diabolik Lovers stage plays) is writing the script for the musical, and Kōtarō Yoshitani (Sengoku Musou, Amnesia, Bakumatsu Rock stage plays, Alice in the Country of Hearts musical, La Corda d'Oro Blue Sky musical) is directing. The staff will reveal the cast and ticket information at a later date.
Himaruya's original manga takes the archetypal characteristics of countries and regions throughout the world, and anthropomorphizes them as (mostly) bishōnen characters. Right Stuf has been releasing the manga in North America in collaboration with its former English-language publisher, Tokyopop, and its Japanese publisher Gentosha Comics.
Hetalia The World Twinkle, the sixth anime season inspired by Himaruya's manga, premiered in Japan earlier this month. Funimation is streaming the series.
The previous anime season, Hetalia The Beautiful World, premiered in Japan in January 2013. Funimation has released all the previous anime seasons and the Hetalia Axis Powers: Paint it, White! film in North America.
