Japanese video game developer Acquire (Way of the Samurai, Tenchu, Akiba's Trip series) began streaming a promotional video on Thursday for its latest game for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, Zettai Geigeki Wars: Metropolis Defenders (Absolute Counterattack Wars: Metropolis Defenders).
The game's story takes place in the far distant future, where humans must protect their town from a gigantic new life form called Enemy. A half century earlier, Enemy attacked humanity's final refuge and snatched away an underground resource called Ultanight. Now humanity has managed to build a city that can fight against Enemy. No one knows Enemy's true goal and why they keep attacking.
Players take on the role of the commander of the town's defenses, and players must command "Operators" whose duty it is to protect the town and its citizens. Operators include Lablock (voiced by Toshiyuki Toyonaga), who is in charge of firearm control; Touwa (voiced by M.A.O.), the deputy commander; Chisa (voiced by Yuri Yamaoka), a rookie who just graduated from an intelligence-gathering academy; and Tarcof (voiced by Yūma Uchida), who is in charge of coordination.
Acquire will ship the "urban defense action game" for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita on July 2. The PS3 version will retail for 6,480 yen (about US$53), and the PS Vita version will retail for 5,980 (US$49). Those who pre-order the game will receive a soundtrack CD and a visual book.
