New Kaiketsu Zorori Family Film Unveiled for September
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
The anime studio BN Pictures and Ajia-do announced a new film in the Kaiketsu Zorori franchise on Friday. The film is titled Kaiketsu Zorori: Uchū no Yūsha-tachi (The Incredible Zorori: Heroes of Space), and will premiere in Japan on September 12. Though the film is based on Yutaka Hara's Kaiketsu Zorori series of children's books, the movie will tell an original story.
Tomoko Iwasaki (Inazuma Eleven, Nintama Rantaro, Kaiketsu Zorori Da-Da-Da-Daibōken!) will helm the film project at BN Pictures and Ajia-do, while Mari Okada (Toradora!, anohana, Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine), Akiko Waba (EUREKA SEVEN AO, Noragami, M3 the dark metal), and Keigo Koyanagi (CANAAN, Angel Beats!, Hana-Saku Iroha) are in charge of writing the script.
People can buy advance tickets starting in late April, and those who do will receive a postcard. Elementary school children of sixth grade and below can submit the postcard to join a contest to voice-act a character in the movie. Postcards will be distributed until June 30, and the submission deadline for the contest is July 1.
Hara began the children's book series in 1987 and published the 56th book in December. The series has more than 35 million copies in print. The books have inspired a 1993 film, a 2004-2005 television anime series, a second television anime from 2005 to 2007, and a second film in 2006. (These earlier films were short works that were screened with other anime.) Two previous feature-length films opened in 2012 and 2013.
Hara's books follow Zorori, a mischievous bandit fox who dreams of becoming the "King of Pranks." Zorori aims to "build my own castle and make a beautiful princess my wife," and he embarks on one misadventure after another with his two boar companions Ishishi and Noshishi.
