The January issue of Wani Books' Monthly Comic Gum magazine is announcing on Wednesday that it will launch two more manga inspired by the live-action and anime franchise Garo. The magazine will launch Garo the Bible by Sin'Ichi Hiromoto (Hells Angels, STONe, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi) and Garo -Makai no Hana- by Shizuku Ichigono (Ichigo no Hishosama, Kaika no Susume, Strawberry Tril) in the following issue on December 26. Garo -Makai no Hana-, named after the franchise's fourth tokusatsu (special-effects) series, will be Ichigono's first manga in Monthly Comic Gum.
The magazine already publishes Yūki Yogo and franchise creator Keita Amemiya's Garo manga (pictured top left).
Production on a second season of the Garo: Honoo no Kokuin television anime has been green-lit, and an anime theatrical film version is also in the works as well as three live-action theatrical films, a new live-action television series, and a stage musical.
Funimation is streaming the first anime season as it airs in Japan. Funimation describes the story:
The King's close advisor implemented a large-scale witch-hunt. The tragic victims of this hunt were not witches, however, but Makai Knights and Makai Priests. One Makai Priestess gave birth to a child while being burned at the stake. That child carried the bloodlines of the Golden Knight. Although he was saved by his father, a Makai Knight himself, the newborn, León Luís, suffered greatly from the unjust death of his mother. And so he vowed to learn the ways of a Makai Knight from his father, Germán Luís, and use his training to seek revenge. During his battles against the demons known as “Horrors,” León must gradually approach reality and accept the truth.Meanwhile, the powerful former adviser to the King, Mendoza, banished Prince Alfonso and his mother while the king was bedridden. Eager to reclaim his kingdom and save his people, Alfonso embarks on a quest to find the legendary Knight – but destiny holds a twist of fate in store for him.
Together, León and Alfonso begin long and difficult journey filled with many hardships.
