posted on by Kyle Cardine
The December issue of Kodansha's Monthly Shōnen Sirius is announcing on Saturday that the new Tenchi Muyo! anime series, Ai: Tenchi Muyo!, will receive a manga adaptation in the magazine starting in the January issue on November 26. The Ai: Tenchi Muyo! anime's original creator Masaki Kajishima is credited with the original story, and Haruna Nakazato will draw the manga.
Nakazato won the 23rd Sirius New Face Awards in 2012 with the short manga "Hoshi no Ame."
The five-minute anime series premiered on Tokyo MX on October 6. The series is expected to run for 50 episodes. In the anime's story, the world is in trouble because Washu is stirring up trouble again. In order to save the world from crisis, Tenchi goes undercover as a teacher in a girls' school. However, many problems arise as Tenchi is predisposed to finding trouble.
Character designer Suzuhito Yasuda (Durarara!!, Yozakura Quartet) designed the characters for the new series and Hiroshi Negishi (Tenchi Universe, Saber Marionette J) returned to the franchise to direct.
The city of Takahashi in Okayama Prefecture is sponsoring the new anime. The anime will be set in Takahashi, as the city hopes fans will come on a "pilgrimage" to see the setting of the anime, and plans to sell goods and host related events.
Update: Kajishima is just credited with the original story of Tenchi Muyo! Thanks, Nil Admirari
