Anime director Kōji Morimoto (The Animatrix, Memories, Genius Party) has created a 15-second promotional video for the Japanese post progressive metal band mono. The band is releasing two new albums titled Rays of Darkness and The Last Dawn this fall. Morimoto requested and started the project after listening to the band's song "Recoil, Ignite" for the first time.
The band will release the two albums simultaneously on October 24 in Europe, October 27 in the United Kingdom, October 28 in the United States, and November 5 in Japan. The band is also launching a world tour in October through December that includes stops in Europe and Asia.
Morimoto has worked as an anime director, filmmaker, visual creator, and art director. He was involved with television anime series, films, and original video projects including Akira, Magnetic Rose, Extra, Ai Monogatari, Macross Plus, and Tekkonkinkreet. He directed the Beyond segment in The Animatrix, the cult fan favorite Noiseman Sound Insect, the "Connected" music video for Ayumi Hamasaki, and the "Dimension Bomb" portion of the Genius Party omnibus film.
As a founding member, Morimoto worked at Studio 4°C from 1989 to 2011. He now helms the new Φphy creative team as Executive Art Director. The studio produces anime but also creates other works. He recently directed the opening animation for the Short Peace omnibus project, and also wrote and directed the Sheepman 012 stage play project.
