Japanese Box Office, June 21-22

The Saint Seiya: Legend of Sanctuary CG film opened this weekend at #6. The film adapts Sanctuary arc from Masami Kurumada's original Saint Seiya mythological fantasy manga of "Bronze Saints vs. Gold Saints." Keiichi Satou (Tiger & Bunny, Ashura), is helmed the project, and Kurumada is credited as the original creator and chief production supervisor. The film ranked #5 on Box Office Mojo's Chart and earned 82,024,908 yen (US$808,765) on 145 screens.
Thermae Romae II, the second live-action film adaptation of Mari Yamazaki's Thermae Romae manga, fell to #11 on Box Office Mojo's chart in its ninth weekend and earned 23,434,507 yen (US$231,040) on 342 screens for a new total of ¥4,307,084,784 yen (US$42,472,034). Hiroshi Abe is returning as the time-travelling bath architect Lucius Modestus along with Masachika Ichimura as Hadrian, Kazuki Kitamura as Ceionius, Kai Shishido as Antonius, and Aya Ueto as Mami Yamakoshi.
Persona 3 the Movie #2 Midsummer Knight's Dream rose to #13 on Box Office Mojo's chart in its third weekend and earned 19,208,508 yen (US$189,383) on 35 screens for a new total of ¥152,752,386 yen (US$1,506,136). Akira Ishida returns to voice protagonist Makoto Yūki in the second film based on the PlayStation 2 game. In the game's story, there is a hidden time known as the "Dark Hour" that exists between one day and the next when all movement in the town stops. During this time, a group of high school students fight terrible creatures called Shadows by summoning Personas.
