Lupin III Gets 1st Stage Musical by All-Female Takarazuka Revue
posted on by Egan Loo
Takarazuka Revue, the famous all-female acting troupe, will hold its first stage musical adaptation of Monkey Punch's iconic caper manga Lupin III. Seina Sagiri (pictured right), the top star of the revue's Yukigumi group, and Miyu Sakihi (pictured far right), the revue's top performer of female roles, will co-star.
The revue did perform a parody with Miki Maya dressed as the thief Lupin III during the "'95 TCA Special Maniac Takarazuka" run. However, the upcoming performance will be Takarazuka's first official portrayal of Lupin III. Naoko Koyanagi (Aka-Sen) is writing and directing the musical.
The musical will run with the Fancy Guy! show at the Takarazuka Grand Theater from January 1 to February 2 of next year. The musical will then travel to the Tokyo Takarazuka Theater from February 20 to March 22.
The new live-action Lupin the Third film starring Shun Oguri as Lupin will open on August 30. Redline director Takeshi Koike is helming the new Lupin III spinoff anime film Lupin the IIIrd: Jigen Daisuke no Bohyō (Lupin the IIIrd: Daisuke Jigen's Gravestone), which will open on June 21.
The Takarazuka Revue already performed stage versions of Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Sengoku Basara, Jin, The Rose of Versailles, and more.
