Future supernatural story inspired TV anime in 2007
Kyohei Iwai is ending the Mushi-Uta light novel series in the 15th volume on Thursday.
The story takes place in the near future when insect-like creatures called "mushi" begin appearing and consuming peoples' thoughts, granting the humans supernatural powers. Protagonist Daisuke hunts mushi, but the past of his companion Shiika comes back to haunt them both.
Iwai launched the action series in 2003. The novels inspired a 2007 television anime directed by Kazuo Sakai at the studio Beat Frog. Seijūrō Miz also released a manga adaptation in Kadokawa Shoten's Monthly Shōnen Ace magazine. Crunchyroll added the anime to its streaming lineup in 2010.
