AKB48 Idol Anna Iriyama Stars in Film of Ao Oni Horror Game

18-year-old AKB48 member Anna Iriyama (seen left in photo) will be making her acting debut by starring in the film adaptation of the free online horror game Ao Oni (Blue Demon).
Iriyama (also known as "Annin") commented that she was surprised that she would be making her debut as an actress, and as the main character of a film to boot. She added that although she is happy, she also feels pressure and confusion. According to Iriyama, there are members of AKB48 who enjoyed the original game. Iriyama also told reporters that although as an idol she wants to be viewed as cute, she cast that aside during the filming of Ao Oni.
Ao Oni is a horror game that makes the player solve various puzzles and riddles in order to escape a demon in a locked or enclosed space. Videos of the game on YouTube and Nico Nico have passed 50 million views. The game is available to play in both Japanese and English. A novel inspired by the game was released in Japan last year (cover seen left).
The film will open in Japanese theaters on July 5.
