A live-action film of Hiromasa Okushima's schoolyard brawl manga Akira No. 2 has been green-lit. The "yankee" (delinquent) manga follows Akira, the No. 2 boy in a high school that is full of students with disciplinary issues. The story follows the battles within the student body for the alpha male position.
Ryōta Ozawa (Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger) will star as Akira, kick-boxer Yasuhiro Kidō will play the gang leader Tsutomu. The cast also includes Maasa Igarashi, Shōdai Fukuyama, and Manami Hashimoto.
The film will open this fall.
Okushima (Tsuki ni Te o Nobase - QP - Tom & Jerry Gaiden manga) launched the manga in Shonengahosha's Young King magazine in 2012, and Shonengahosha will publish the manga's fourth compiled book volume on May 26.
