Haruki Plans to Resume The Parasite Doctor Suzune
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Manga creator Haruki announced on his official Twitter account this month that he plans to resume his Kisei Jūi Suzune (The Parasite Doctor Suzune) manga soon. The series launched in Takeshobo's Doki! magazine in 2004.
The story of Kisei Jūi Suzune revolves around a female doctor who fights to destroy parasites that increase its host's power and sexual desire. Suzune's father, a genius parasite scholar, disappeared when Suzune was a child.
Distributed by Takeshobo, the manga had been downloaded about 15 million times as of 2011. Takeshobo's Bamboo Comics label also released six compiled book volumes. Digital Manga Publishing's Project-H label released the second volume in North America on February 14.
The manga inspired a live-action film adaptation starring actress Rei Yoshii (Bleach Rock Musical's Inoue Orihime). The film opened in Japan in 2011 along with a companion film, Kisei Jūi Suzune Evolution. North American video distributor Media Blasters released both films under its live-action label Tokyo Shock last year.
Haruki's other manga include Secretarial Section Drop and Sense.
