Pierrot Animates Miracle Jump's Manga Winners
posted on by Egan Loo
On Monday, Shueisha's Miracle Jump magazine began streaming the web anime shorts for two manga shorts that won its top Miracle Comic Prize. Studio Pierrot animated both shorts.
"Moonrakers" by Seiji Ebina
An accident leaves Taishi (voiced by Kazuyuki Okitsu) stranded on the lunar surface, unable to return to Earth. A girl (Rumi Ookubo) helps him in his despair, but he is oblivious to her true identity. Noriyuki Abe (Bleach, GTO, Yū Yū Hakusho) directed, and Takahiro Tanaka (Doorbell, 2011 Thundercats) served as character designer and chief animation director.
"Meisō! Underworld" (Wander! Underworld) by Motoi Tanaka
Seita (Ryota Ohsaka) dies after dozing off behind the wheel and wakes up in the underworld. However, the prize that a demon (Sayuri Yahagi) extracts from him is part of his body. Shin Matsuo (episode director on Ouran High School Host Club, Star Driver) directed, and Katsuya Yamada (mechanical designer and animation director on The Princess and the Pilot, Space Pirate Captain Herlock The Endless Odyssey) served as character designer and chief animation director.
Both Ebina and Tanaka will run new manga in the recently relaunched Miracle Jump magazine. Shueisha first launched Miracle Jump as a bimonthly version of its earlier Monthly Young Jump magazine in 2011, but it is now monthly again.
