Capcom Plans 2 New R&D Buildings for Next-Gen & Social Games
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Game developer CAPCOM announce on Monday that it is constructing two new office buildings for research and development. The offices will be built near CAPCOM's main Osaka headquarters and will focus on researching and developing next-generation and social games. The company credits the popularity of smartphone social games and the a variety of network functions of next-generation consoles as "shifting the focus of sales from conventional package software to digitally distributed content."
The buildings will be eight and 16 floors high, respectively. The company plans to complete the buildings in January 2015 and February 2016. CAPCOM plans to hire about 100 developers every year, mostly new graduates, and raise the share of game development work that is performed internally. By March 2022, CAPCOM plans to have a workforce of 2,500 developers.
