Gugure! Kokkuri-san Supernatural Comedy Manga Gets TV Anime
posted on by Sarah Nelkin
The April issue of Square Enix's Gangan Joker magazine is announcing on Saturday that a television anime adaptation of Midori Endō's Gugure! Kokkuri-san comedy four-panel manga has been green-lit.
The anime will star Ryō Hirohashi (Working!!, Kaleido Star) as Kohina Ichmatsu, Daisuke Ono (Durarara!!, Wizard Barristers: Benmashi Cecil) as Kokkuri-san, Takahiro Sakurai (.hack//Roots, Noragami) as Inugami, and Jouji Nakata (Fate/Zero, Sgt. Frog) as Jigaraki.
The original manga revolves around Kohina, a little girl who ends up summoning by a Kokkuri-san, a lower-ranking ghost in Japanese folklore. The Kokkuri-san she calls ends up being a white-haired handsome, young man. Although he had intended to merely haunt her at first, he becomes worried about her terrible eating habit of cup ramen for every meal, so he decides to haunt her in order to protect her.
Endō began the manga in 2011, and Square Enix shipped the fifth compiled volume in Japan last August.
