Giant Robo's Imagawa Helms Wasimo Comedy Anime
posted on by Egan Loo
Wasimo, a picture book by screenwriter Kankurō Kudō (The Legend of Kamui, Maiko Haaaan!!!, Zebraman, Ping-Pong, Go) and illustrator Hajime Anzai, is inspiring a series of television anime shorts. The humourous story follows a grandmother-model robot named Wasimo who comes into the family of elementary school girl Hiyori.
Yasuhiro Imagawa (G Gundam, Giant Robo) is writing and directing the anime at Studio DEEN. Aimi Tanaka will play Hiyori, and Rica Matsumoto will play Wasimo. The 10 10-minute shorts will run from March 10 to March 21 (except during the March 15-16 weekend) at 6:00 p.m. on the public broadcaster NHK's E-Tele channel.
In the story, Hiyori's grandma passed away. For his daughter who cried every day, Hiyori's papa built a grandmother-model robot named Wasimo. The nostalgic "katakatakata" sound Wasimo makes when it walks comes from the same false teeth that Hiyori's grandma had. Wasimo walks faster than a snail, but slower than an excited snail. Still, Wasimo can actually run faster than a speeding bullet train. The story follows this strange Wasimo as it meets all sorts of people and has all sorts of experiences.
